Western Horseman Magazine named the top 5 rodeo horses of the decade in the following timed events: tie-down roping, heading, heeling, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. These horses were chosen according to their amazing performances in the rodeo arena. These horses are considered to be the most memorable performers of this century’s first decade.
RTR Little Willy, aka Willy, was named the top steer wrestling horse of the decade. His breeder was William W. Graff from Grand Junction, Colorado and his owner is Greg Cassidy from Donalda, Alberta. Willy was originally not into the whole rodeo scene, he was actually a race horse. His owner knew that he was not a strong finisher but he stood tall and proud at the starting gate and certainly could run. He was then sold to the Cassidy family and at first, was turned into a practice horse. Eventually he became an amazing horse and won the AQHA/PRCA Horse of the Year in 2008. At the age if 24, Willy is still running but due to a reoccurring tendon problem his owners are planning on retiring him at the end of this year.
